Welcome

Founded in 1994, the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Sanctuary is a special place right here in Butte County. Equal parts wildlife sanctuary, educational park, and research center, the Sanctuary is home to a remarkable assortment of non-releasable wild and exotic animals, many of them endangered species. Our animals have the potential to inspire minds and to change lives! They are only a few of our natural wonders that we are close to losing forever.

Visit

Visit the Kirshner Wildlife Sanctuary and show your support for the residents of the facility and their relatives in the wild!

Sanctuary Visiting Hours:

9:00 am – 5:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday

Donors

Although no salaries are paid here, it still takes a lot of resources to keep the Sanctuary up and running. Our resident animals are fed approximately a half ton of food every day, 75% of it meat. The many special needs animals at our facility require medication. Our outreach program requires special transportation and insurance. Educational materials come with publication costs. The list of expenses is endless!

We are focused on Conservation, Preservation and Rehabilitation.

Preservation

"IF YOU CARE, LEAVE THEM THERE"

-Fish and Wildlife

We believe that preserving animals in their natural environment is a top priority. When that is not possible, we are here at the Barry Kirshner Wildlife Foundation to provide care for animals in need.

Rehabilitation

Our Mission at Kirshner

"The mission of the Barry Kirshner Wildlife Foundation is to provide rehabilitation and long-term care for exotic and native species, as well as to provide educational programs on all levels emphasizing wildlife and habitat conservation."
